Bike Education: Be Prepared for Strive Not to Drive and a Future of Safe Competent Cycling!

 
 

Traffic Skills 101 class will help you gain the competence and skills to feel comfortable riding your bike on the road. The course will include classroom discussion and group ride led by certified instructors with commuting experience certified by the League of American Bicyclists. Course topic includes: bike selection, fit and equipment, route selection and backup plans, drive your bike (vehicular cycling), handling skills and practice drills, and safety and emergency maneuvers.

The Confident Commuter class is a three hour long class. The course covers a wide range of topics to help you become confident about using your bike for transportation. Some of the topics covered are, choosing your routes, carrying cargo, dealing with business attire, having emergency clothing, when to ride, nutrition and hydration, hygiene, parking your bike, how to deal with the variety of riding conditions you'll encounter and more.

The Traffic Skills 101 classes is from 10 AM - 4 PM. The Commuter Class is from 10 AM - 1 PM. Both classes are held at the NC Center for Health and Wellness at the Sherrill Center on UNC Asheville campus at room 442.

The cost for the Commuter Class is $10 and $20 for Traffic Skills 101. Bring a snack/lunch. Please bring a bicycle and helmet to participate.
