Strive Not To Drive encourages you to commute, run errands, and explore around your town by any mode other than one person in one car. Bike, bus, walk, or carpool and discover that the fun is in the journey.

HENDERSONVILLE EVENTS SCHEDULE

Friday, May 18, 1-4:30pm
Strive Beyond Summit at Sierra Nevada Brewery

WNC's future hinges on more transportation options, from greenways and worker shuttles to buses between counties. At Strive Beyond, two panels discuss the latest movements in active, shared, and sustainable transportation, giving us workable tools to grow western North Carolina's economy and workforce while supporting our aging and underrepresented communities and leaving gasoline combustion in the rear view.

Inter-Generational Walk To School Day

An inter-generational event! Students of Hendersonville Elementary and Middle Schools are invited on a journey to school that celebrates the benefits of walking, escorted by our wiser, more elder neighbors. Gather prior to 7:20 at either of two meeting places: YMCA at 810 West 6th Ave. or Grace Lutheran Church at 1245 West 6th Ave. The safe route, co-hosted by Active Routes to School, AARP, Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, and YMCA will proceed from both locations to the elementary and middle school. Parents Guardians and volunteers are invited to free coffee at the YMCA, following the walk.

Saturday, May 19, 10am-noon
(re)Learn To Ride a Bike

Wobbly bike riders, young and not-so-young, are invited to brush up on their bicycle skills with help from trained instructors. Drop by Jackson Park any time between 10am and noon for a quick lesson. Bring your own bike or borrow one of ours. A Sycamore Cycles bike mechanic will be on hand for safety check-ups. And stick around for a Greenway Tour at noon, with Blue Ridge Bicycle Club.

Tuesday, May 22, 10am-noon
Aging-On-The-Go Brunch

Over 60 and seriously considering your transportation options beyond the car? Join a roundtable discussion of the transportation needs and tools specific to Henderson County’s aging community, hosted by Hendersonville Community Coop, AARP, and Council on Aging. The food is free and your opinions are invaluable as the city and county listen to citizens aging in place and staying on-the-go.
