We had 333 individuals who submitted an online pledge to drive less and use alternative forms of transportation, 31 companies who participated in the Workplace Challenge and 138 senior citizens who were involved through the Senior Activity Centers. This was an increase of 116% from the 218 participants in 2011.
While over 200 individuals submitted an online pledge to drive less and use alternative forms of transportation, there are many indications that this is only a small percent of the individuals who participated in the event. The Asheville Transit Commission reported bus ridership was increased by 4,660 rides of 16% compared with the week before. 140 individuals on foot, bike or bus visited one of the three commuter breakfast stations and a similar number took advantage of free bike parking at the kick-off of Downtown After 5 in 2011.
